Earthlink is currently providing wireless Internet services for customers in Anaheim, Calif. and is building out networks in Milpitas, Calif., and Philadelphia. Ideally suited for wireless local area network (WLAN) and other broadband ATM or IP-based networks (DSL, cable), ADC's SG-1 allows service providers to add an intelligent layer of value-added services, such as dynamic bandwidth management and content on demand, without the need for additional, dedicated client software. Service providers can now profitably offer differentiated services Offerings that can be classified by type, or quality, of service. For example, a differentiated services network could prioritize realtime traffic for a higher fee. and content to users based on individual user profiles. Since the SG-1 uses open standards and protocols, this service gateway is unique in that it can use any portal on the web - commercial, existing or third party - for customer interactive service selection.
