ADC's OmniReach Multi-Port Service Terminals Accepted by USDA's Rural Utilities Services; Acceptance Supports RUS Broadband Loan Program for Rural Infrastructure Expansion.

MINNEAPOLIS -- ADC (NASDAQ:ADCT) (www.adc.com), a leading supplier of infrastructure solutions for fiber-to-the-x (FTTX (Fiber To The X) Refers to all the "fiber-to-the-wherever" technologies. See FTTC and FTTP. See also FTX.) networks, today announced that its OmniReach(TM) Multi-Port Service Terminals (MSTs) have been accepted by Rural Utilities Services (RUS) for use in telecommunications systems. ADC will feature these products at OSP Expo in booth #63008, June 5-7 in Chicago.

Through the RUS Broadband Loan Program, which is designed to increase broadband deployment in rural communities, ADC will contribute to the expansion of rural economic development by providing high-quality, cost-effective connectivity solutions that support nationwide broadband and FTTX build-outs. Product acceptance by RUS means that ADC's OmniReach MSTs can be purchased and installed using RUS loans or grants. This allows rural carriers to take advantage of many product benefits such as robust environmental performance, reduced installation and maintenance costs, superior durability and reliability, and ease of use.

"ADC is committed to the RUS certification process," said Pat O'Brien, president of Global Connectivity Solutions for ADC. "We're also dedicated to providing the best-in-class products for the RUS community throughout America, including the independent operating companies (IOCs), municipalities and rural telephone companies. These organizations face ever-changing requirements and growing demands for advanced communications from the home, and ADC is there to help them."

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents. The Rural Broadband Access Loan Program is designed to provide loans to fund the costs of construction, improvement and acquisition of facilities and equipment to provide broadband services to eligible rural communities. This program has enabled RUS to step beyond its traditional definition of rural (towns of 5,000 or less), and fund borrowers serving communities of up to 20,000 inhabitants, providing rural consumers nationwide the same range of high-quality, affordable and advanced telecommunications services that are available in urban and suburban communities.

Used in FTTX applications, the OmniReach MST product line provides simplified subscriber connections from the Passive Optic Network (PON) distribution cable to the drop cable drop cable - Wiring between a computer and its Ethernet transceiver. Maximum length if full-spec is 47m. connecting to the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) in a home. It also incorporates hardened connector technology that is designed to withstand a rugged outside-the-plant environment. These environmentally secure, factory-sealed MST enclosures are available in 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 port configurations and feature flexible mounting options including pole, pedestal, hand hole and strand to support both aerial and below-grade applications.

It is estimated that $1.5 billion to $3.5 billion will be spent annually by telecommunications service providers during the next five years as FTTX networks are deployed in the United States. New FTTX projects initiated by carriers and municipalities have increased by more than 100 percent since 2000.
