 - The Broadband Company - (Nasdaq:ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform ; www.adc.com) today announced a contract to supply Metrica/NPR to Amena, a Spanish GSM 1800 operator. The contract, which covers Metrica/NPR for Wireless, is in partnership with Ericsson Spain.

Amena is proving to be highly successful at targeting the prepaid pre·pay

sector in Spain's mature GSM market. Since launching in January 1999, the network has attracted $1.5 million subscribers and expects three million by the end of 2000. Such rapid growth demands accurate and timely planning, management and network development to ensure quality of service and return on investment. Metrica/NPR has been deployed to analyze performance statistics from Ericsson, Siemens and Nokia network infrastructure elements.

Metrica/NPR, used by 160 mobile and fixed networks around the world, stores large volumes of performance measurement data and provides daily, weekly and monthly reports on a wide range of operating parameters, such as traffic and grade of service. Operators use this information to forecast network growth, diagnose diagnose /di·ag·nose/ (di´ag-nos) to identify or recognize a disease.

"Prepaid is extremely popular in the Spanish market as it is in most of Europe, with young people and the fashion-conscious finding it especially attractive," said Cesar Gutierrez, telecom management solutions marketing manager at Ericsson Spain. "ADC's Metrica/NPR is helping Amena to obtain a clearer view of its network and to make quality business decisions based on accurate and timely information."

Commenting on the contract, said: "Prepaid customers have far less incentive to remain loyal to a single operator than traditional post-paid, as there are no long-term contracts," said David Heaps, vice president of product management in ADC's Software Systems Division. "So operators with a large prepaid user base must guarantee first class quality in order to keep their customers coming back. ADC's Metrica family of products has been designed to meet such demands by helping operators around the world to manage network performance and proactively monitor quality of service."
