ADC's Cuda 12000 CMTS Receives DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification.

Business Editors & Technology Writers

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 2002

The Field-Deployment Leader in Next-Generation CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) A computerized device that enables cable modems to send and receive packets over the Internet. It inserts IP packets from the Internet into MPEG frames and transmits them to the cable modems via an RF signal.  Platforms

(Nasdaq:ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform ; www.adc.com) today announced that the Cuda(TM) 12000 cable modem termination system A cable modem termination system or CMTS is equipment typically found in a cable company's headend, or at cable company hubsite and is used to provide high speed data services, such as cable internet or Voice over IP, to cable subscribers.  (CMTS) has received CableLabs(R) DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability. (TM) 1.1 qualification. The Cuda 12000 is the only next-generation IP Access Switch with integrated routing to be awarded both CableLabs DOCSIS 1.1 qualification and @Home Labs Level 2 approval.

"With more than 300 systems in the field, the Cuda 12000 is a proven revenue-generating asset for MSOs worldwide," said Dave Paolino, president of ADC's IP Cable Business Unit. "Now, our customers have the added assurance of DOCSIS 1.1 qualification and the confidence that they can build on the Cuda 12000 as a solid foundation for delivering reliable and profitable advanced IP data and voice services."

By meeting the requirements for DOCSIS 1.1 qualification, ADC's Cuda 12000 CMTS platform is tested to interoperate with other vendor's DOCSIS devices, allowing for the rapid provisioning of tiered services for residential and business customers, as well as advanced services such as IP telephony. According to CableLabs, compliance with DOCSIS 1.1 enables operators to provide twice the level of functionality while reducing operating costs by half.

By incorporating a router into a CMTS, operators have fewer network elements to manage and gain space savings in their headend and the power to handle large IP networks. Other CMTS vendors require multiple and separate systems to deliver many of the services required by today's cable operators, while ADC's Cuda 12000 integrates powerful functionality into a single IP Access Switch/CMTS platform.

The Cuda 12000 is also the first next-generation CMTS to receive @Home Level 2 approval. To gain this achievement, the Cuda 12000 passed multiple performance, functionality and stress tests, including the activation of 1,000 cable modem subscribers on a single CMTS blade with no degradation in performance for over three months. @Home Level 2 approval confirms ADC's continued commitment to ease of installation, system management, troubleshooting and tight security.

ADC's Cuda 12000 is the industry's most widely deployed DOCSIS 1.1-compliant CMTS platform for multiple system operators (MSOs). Through its latest enhancements, the Cuda 12000 now incorporates Adaptive Spectrum Management, which maximizes use of bandwidth through more robust communications, as well as Network and HFC 1. 2. (hardware) HFC - hydrofluorocarbon.
Redundancy, which offer the potential for delivering more revenue-generating services to each subscriber.
