ADAMCZYK DRIVES WESTLAKE TO TITLE ECR CAN'T KNOCK PITCHER OUT EARLY WESTLAKE 5, ECR 3.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Tyler Adamczyk arrived right on time.

The Westlake High right-hander threw a complete game, striking out 10 and giving up five hits in his season pitching debut to lead the Warriors to a 5-3 victory over El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

The win climaxed a day when a bus scheduled to take the Warriors to the game didn't show up, but the team made it less than an hour before the scheduled start.

``I knew we'd play when we're ready,'' said Adamczyk, who estimates his strength is back to about 95 percent normal as he recovers from mononucleosis mononucleosis /mono·nu·cle·o·sis/ (-noo?kle-o´sis) excess of mononuclear leukocytes (monocytes) in the blood.

``I've been working on another pitch to throw and it looks like I've found it,'' Adamczyk said.

The Warriors appeared more rusty than Adamczyk early in the game.

ECR's runs came on just one hit and Westlake made a combined four errors in the first four innings. The Warriors first baserunner did not come until the fourth inning.

Once the Warriors found their groove, though, they showed why they are undefeated and ranked No. 1 by the Daily News.

Soon after Jon Shepard led off the fourth with a walk and Cory Taillon followed with Westlake's first hit, a single up the middle to drive in Shepard and cut the deficit to 3-1, the Warriors had the lead and ECR ECR Efficient Consumer Response

ECR took the early lead when Adamczyk and his defense struggled to find their form.

Adamczyk started the game by walking Nick Eustrom and five of his first six pitches were balls. Adamczyk's throwing error on a pickoff pick·off

An error by Ryan McCarthy on Nick Gomez's grounder to second allowed two to score instead of ending the inning.

Westlake first baseman Jesse Kozlowski dropped the throw to first to put the leadoff batter on in the second and the Conquistadores loaded the bases in the third, but both times Westlake got out of the inning without allowing a run.

Jackson and Jason Kort each had singles for ECR batter.
