), a division of ADAC Laboratories (Nasdaq:ADAC), announced today that it has formed a strategic alliance with OptiMed Technologies Inc. of Fairfield, N.J., to provide a cardiac image archive and cardiac catheterization lab information management system, the CAATi(TM) System.

This new system is being marketed by ADAC and will provide rapid on-line access to all catheterization catheterization

procedures and reports anywhere within a hospital. Physicians will also be able to obtain patient information from outside the hospital via the Internet, using the CAATi System's Web Server access.

The CAATi platform complies with the latest industry interface standards such as DICOM (medical, standard) DICOM - (From Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) A standard developed by ACR-NEMA (American College of Radiology - National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) for communications between medical imaging devices.  and HL7, is compatible with all x-ray vendors' catheterization systems, and will accept any digital, DICOM or high resolution analog input Refers to hardware interfaces that accept non-digital signals. For decades, all the plugs and sockets on traditional audio and video equipment connected analog lines (see illustration below). . The CAATi System has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA FDA

John McAuley, vice president and general manager of ADAC's Cardiology Systems Group, commented, "We are very excited to partner with one of the industry leaders in cardiac image management, enabling us to jointly deliver a comprehensive solution to the cardiology marketplace.  and procedural information with coronary images, we are able to provide cardiologists immediate access to all catheterization data, thereby improving diagnostic efficiency. The system also provides the ability to integrate echocardiography Echocardiography Definition

Commenting on the benefits of this strategic alliance, Ben Noy, president of OptiMed stated, "Cath labs now have access to two of the leading cardiac systems integrated through one source. The integrated hemodynamic, patient report and patient image file provide a complete patient record which can be instantaneously accessed anywhere in the hospital, as well as anywhere outside the hospital using CAATi's Web Server capability. Several years of patient data can be stored in a central patient data jukebox library, which can be shared by multiple hospitals or imaging facilities.

"Although cath lab professionals will reap tremendous benefits through improved information access," continued Mr. Noy, "the patient will be the ultimate beneficiary through expedient diagnosis and treatment."
