SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. That's the basic message of a city-sponsored campaign starting this week to prevent drinking and driving throughout the holidays in Santa Clarita.

City officials and the local sheriff's station are teaming with local media outlets in the $12,000 campaign. Print and TV ads along with radio spots are part of the plan.

Featured in the ads is a picture of a drunk driver being arrested contrasted with the cost of a drink.
