ACWA Hosts Briefing to Highlight Future Challenges in Providing Safe Drinking Water.


SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1999--

The year 1999 marks the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Safe Drinking Water Act The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) is a United States federal law passed by the U.S. Congress on December 16, 1974. It is the main federal law that ensures safe drinking water for Americans. .

But as more demand is placed on current and future water supplies and as safe drinking water regulations continue to tighten, public water agencies will face increasing challenges over the next 25 years.

"Redefining `SAFE': A Non-Technical Briefing of Pressing Drinking Water Challenges" will be held May 4 at Harrah's Hotel, South Shore Room, in conjunction with the ACWA 1999 Spring Conference May 5-7.

The briefing is geared towards water agency managers, directors, attorneys and other non-technical members of the water community. It will begin with a look back at the accomplishments and challenges of the 25 years since the passage of the landmark Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974, and the major amendments to that act passed in 1996.
