Bond Funds Will Make Needed Investments in Water System

) today applauded Californians for investing in the state's water infrastructure by approving Proposition 84 on Tuesday's ballot.

Proposition 84 will fund a variety of water- and resources-related programs around the state. The programs will help ensure the availability of safe drinking water drinking water

supply of water available to animals for drinking supplied via nipples, in troughs, dams, ponds and larger natural water sources; an insufficient supply leads to dehydration; it can be the source of infection, e.g. leptospirosis, salmonellosis, or of poisoning, e.g.

 the Department of Water Resources, Proposition 84 will help generate 1 million to 1.2 million acre-feet of new water for the state - enough to meet the needs of more than 1.5 million typical families for a year. It will provide funding for key water programs, including:

* $525 million for safe drinking water and water quality projects

* $1 billion for integrated regional water management

* $800 million for flood control

* $65 million for statewide water planning

* $928 million for protection of rivers, lakes and streams
