Integration with the Explorer 2000, and other digital interactive platforms, will enable HyperTV's Web-based functionality to be delivered directly to TV sets. HyperTV currently offers a "two-screen" solution for TV/Web convergence, targeting the more than 20 million convergent households in the U.S. today -- people who watch TV while they surf the Web on their computer.

"This year's Western Show culminates nearly a year of work to integrate ACTV's software and interactive programming capabilities into the Explorer 2000," said Jack Miller, Scientific-Atlanta's business director of Digital Subscriber Networks The network telephone, cable and ISP that customers connect to. "We are excited to continue our work with ACTV as part of our CreativEdge Developers Program to develop and deliver revolutionary interactive television services to cable subscribers."

Using Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer 2000 advanced digital interactive set-top box and remote control, ACTV's "Individualized Television" software enables viewers to customize their viewing experience by seamlessly switching among multiple, real-time feeds of video, audio and data originating from the event venue. Sports viewers, for example, will be able to access isolated camera angles, in-depth statistics, instant replay on-demand, and "always on" video highlights, among many other options, all at the touch of a button on their remote control. In addition to sporting events, "Individualized Television" can enhance a variety of television genres, including music programming, news, game shows, educational children's programming, pay-per-view, advertising, and others.

The Explorer 2000 set-top has high-throughput, two-way communications and sufficient processing power, memory and graphics capable of enabling a variety of interactive applications for cable subscribers, including Internet access See how to access the Internet. , video-on-demand, home shopping Home Shopping commonly refers to the electronic retailing / home shopping channels industry, which includes such billion dollar companies as HSN, QVC, eBay, ShopNBC, Buy.com, and Amazon.com.  and IP-based applications. To date, 18 cable operators in the U.S. and Canada have committed to deploy Scientific-Atlanta's digital interactive system. One hundred thirty-six systems have been shipped to date; 100 to customer sites and an additional 36 systems to partners and developers. Eighty-four systems have commercially launched to paying customers and more than 600,000 Explorer set-tops are in consumer homes.

HyperTV (http://www.hypertv.com) provides viewers with a richer interactive experience and allows them to become part of a dynamic virtual community, while allowing networks, programmers and advertisers to more effectively leverage the power of the Web to extend their brand identity, access lucrative e-commerce revenue streams, develop one-to-one relationships with viewers, and differentiate their programs offerings today. HyperTV also has a database capability that captures valuable permission-based marketing information.
