``I wonder how many people wish they had a father like the one on `Father Knows Best,' '' said the Rev. Jim Obermeyer, who led the service at the Little Church of the Flowers at Forest Lawn in Glendale.

``We've lost much of the innocence of that era when `Father Knows Best' aired,'' said Obermeyer of the Christ the King Church in Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Later, from 1969 through 1976, he became a role model for doctors across America when he took on the part of ``Marcus Welby, M.D.'' Instead of helping Princess cope with prom stress, this time around he offered comfort to the sick and dying.

At the service Monday, his daughter Carol Proffitt remembered her father as her own ``Papa,'' of getting her first pony as a gift and of spying on his Saturday night poker games with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz Desi Arnaz (born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III) (March 2, 1917 – December 2, 1986) was a Cuban musician, actor, comedian and television producer. ``We worked together six years,'' Wyatt said as she left the memorial service. ``In all those six years we never had a cross word with each other.''
