LANCASTER - Erin Trimble, 6, of Acton is the new Little Miss Antelope Valley. She was crowned Saturday during a pageant with 11 other Little Miss community queens.

The other 11 contestants, between the ages of 6 and 8 were Sarah Lowe of Agua Dulce; Catlin Hartman of Antelope Acres; Tiana De Pauk of California City; Amanda Gulyas of Eastside; Chelsea Spain of Lake Los Angeles; Courtney Achee of Lancaster; Bethany Laba of Littlerock; Brittany Albertson of Palmdale; Katie Crago of Pearblossom; Lacy Perry of Quartz Hill; and Ashley Young of Rosamond.

LANCASTER - The Antelope Valley Latin American Club handed out scholarships totaling $3,000 last week to 10 area students.

LANCASTER - Artwork by visually impaired artists will be on display Aug. 31 to Oct. 6 at the Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery.

``Touchable'' sculpture, a historical display on Louis Braille, and other work is designed to give sighted visitors a glimpse of the world through blind students' eyes.

Works by artists Susan Isaacs, the late Noel Soo and Milford Zones, as well as artists from the Braille Institute of Los Angeles will be on display.

The museum is located at 44801 Sierra Highway. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Moving will take place Monday through Saturday from Sept. 3 to 30, with shifts ranging from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 6 p.m.

``Any help would be greatly appreciated,'' said Glenda Rodger, volunteer coordinator and library assistant.

All volunteers must be at least 16 years old and attend one of two training sessions. The 1-1/2-hour training sessions will be offered at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 and Aug. 27. People interested in volunteering can call (805) 948-5039.

LANCASTER - The first Antelope Valley Swim Festival will be sponsored Sunday at Eastside Pool.

The City Championship games are open to swimmers of all levels. There are 60 different events based on age, stroke and distance.

There is also a Business Relay Race, pitting businesses against each other.

Entry fees are $10 a person and $10 a Business Relay team.

The meet will begin at 10 a.m., with warmups scheduled for 9 a.m. A snack bar and swim apparel booth will be open.

Sign-up sheets are available at Eastside Pool, 45045 Fifth St. E., and at Webber Pool in Jane Reynolds Park, on Avenue J at Fig Avenue.

An exhibition water polo game will be played after the meet.
