The 56-year-old woman was found in a first-floor bathroom shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday by her husband, who called 911 and tried to give her first aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive, officials said.

``It's an apparent self-inflicted (gunshot wound),'' sheriff's Lt. Stephen Fredericks said.

Authorities would not officially release the woman's name, but said they would identify the shooting victim today.

Dispenza, a former Palmdale Chamber of Commerce director and wife of two-time Palmdale mayoral candidate Mike Dispenza, had announced in February that she intended to run herself for the Palmdale City Council in November.

She worked with her husband and son, Mark, in the family's Palmdale Boulevard insurance business and just last month served as co-chairwoman of the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region.
