* Spankie Lou Bassett teaches culinary arts at Bernalillo High School in Bernalillo, N.M. She doubled her trophy collection last December when she won ACTE's highest honor: Teacher of the Year. Bassett improved and expanded her school's food service program from 35 students to 180 and set up a student-run cafe. She has been an ACTE ACTE Association for Career and Technical Education (formerly American Vocational Association)

* Mitch Coleman teaches agriculture and horticulture classes at Dayton High School Dayton High School may refer to:

 in Dayton, Ore. He also is faculty advisor for his school's FFA FFA free fatty acids.  chapter. Coleman has been an ACTE member since 1991.

* Madonna B. Hanna teaches fashion marketing and career opportunities/ personal finance at Bremerton High School Bremerton High School is a high school located in the port city of Bremerton, Washington, west across Puget Sound from Seattle, at 1500 13th Street. As of the 2007-2008 school year, Bremerton High facilitates grades 9-12.  in Bremerton, Wash. She became a teacher--and ACTE member--in 1980. Hanna plans to pay off some bills with her grant money and take her husband, who teaches English at a neighboring high school, on a well-deserved vacation.

* Roger King teaches agribusiness at Holmen High School Holmen High School is a high school located in Holmen, Wisconsin, which is part of the Holmen School District. As of 2006, 1025 students were enrolled at Holmen High School. It was opened in 1994 and the building was expanded in 2000 at a cost of $4.1 million.  in Holmen, Wis., and is the school's FFA advisor. King is past vice president of the Wisconsin Association of Vocational Agriculture Instructors. He has been a teacher and an ACTE member since 1984.

* Shirley Ray is a technology specialist at Orange High School in Hillsborough, N.C. She also works with the school's Cisco Networking Academies, which offer courses in specialized computer skills such as PC troubleshooting See PC conflicts and Windows Resource Kit. . Ray has been an ACTE member since 1985.

* Alice Richmond teaches English and communications at Southern Hills Career Center in Georgetown, Ohio Georgetown is a village in Brown County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,691 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Brown CountyGR6. Georgetown was the childhood home of Ulysses S. Grant. . She has National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in early adolescence/English language arts. Richmond has been an ACTE member since 1998.

* Steve Wash teaches industrial technology and pre-engineering at Batesburg-Leesville High School in Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. He also is the school's director for career and technical education and has been an ACTE member since 1989. Wash plans to use his $25,000 to finance his and his children's education.

* Robert Youngblood teaches agriscience at Oakman High School in Oakman, Ala. The Milken grant was a welcome addition to the bank account for this father of two young daughters. Youngblood has been an ACTE member since 1985.
