:ANET), a leading provider of integrated frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers.  and point-to-point network access solutions, Wednesday announced the VOICE-PAC 400, which provides a cost-effective means of adding toll- quality voice to existing router-based networks over the public frame relay infrastructure.

The existing router connects directly into one of three VOICE-PAC 400 high-speed frame relay ports at speeds up to 512 Kbps each. The voice/fax traffic connects to the two universal voice ports provided. Using frame relay to carry voice, fax and data traffic is a cost-effective method of connecting multiple remote locations to a central headquarters.

"At a minimal cost, ACT is adding toll-quality voice to existing router-based networks," said Martin Shum, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Your toll charges will be significantly reduced simply because you are adding your voice/fax calls over your existing bandwidth on the public frame relay network."

The VOICE-PAC 400 uses standards-compliant frame relay interfaces (ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  and ITU/CCITT) to translate any data protocol into frame relay packets. The product is compatible with all major frame relay switches in use by the frame relay service providers, and with routers manufactured by CISCO, Bay Networks, Hewlett Packard, and ACC See adaptive cruise control. , among others.

"Frame relay is a standards-based technology allowing multiple vendors' products to interoperate, and because the public frame relay network is maintained by the service providers, you can depend on the network's reliability," said Ross Kocen, director of Public Frame Relay Networks at ACT and chair of the Frame Relay Forum's subworking committee for voice over frame relay.

"The Frame Relay Forum is actively working on an implementors' agreement for voice over frame relay, which will standardize the products even further."

The VOICE-PAC 400 is currently shipping at a list price of $4,995.
