THAT TAKES THE CAKE: First the stock market slumped, then a major department store chain collapsed. Then the panic really spread - igniting a ``cake run'' on one of Hong Kong's most popular bakery chains. Police were called in to keep order when the mad cake run broke out following rumors that the Saint Honore Cake Shop Ltd. would close. Some of Saint Honore's 43 outlets stayed open until midnight to accommodate throngs of consumers seeking to redeem gift certificates for cakes, sweet rolls and other pastries. ``It's hysteria,'' said Joseph Chan, executive director of Yaohan International Caterers, the chain's owner. ``We're not shutting down. In fact, this has been good for business.''
