ACP Foundation to Convene Health Communication Conference.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 2003

On November 17, 2003, experts in health related fields will gather from around the country at the National Academy of Sciences to discuss how to improve communication in health care.

The American College of Physicians The American College of Physicians (ACP) is a national organization of doctors of internal medicine (internists), physicians who specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses in adults.  Foundation (ACP (Associate Computing Professional) The award for successful completion of an examination in computers offered by the ICCP. ACP - Algebra of Communicating Processes
 Foundation) is teaming up with the National Institute of Medicine (IOM) to present the second annual national health communication conference in a one-day forum entitled Strategies to Improve Healthcare by Removing Communication Barriers.

Some of the major issues to be discussed regarding Improving the Quality of Health Care include

-- Health Literacy,

-- The Role of Technology in Health Care Communication,

-- Communication Obstacles as a Result of Cultural Diversity,

-- Ethnic Disparities in the Work Place, and

-- Discovering Funding Sources.

The conference's goal is to spotlight the importance of communication among all participants in public and private health care systems. Emphasis will be placed on how the management of chronic disease is impacted by cultural differences and language barriers among patients, physicians, and other health professionals.
