ACOM EMR Division Enhances Rapid EMR Diagnostic/Reporting Software with Helpers and Convenience, Navigation Features.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The ACOM Electronic Medical Records Division has added 18 image-based range-of-motion Helpers for the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal areas in the newly enhanced RAPID EMR 3.5 diagnostic, reporting and document management solution, it was announced by Gregory T. Church, vice president of the EMR Division of ACOM Solutions, Inc. Enhancements also include an upgraded graphical user interface, simplified coordination of notes, and more support for documentation of wellness patients, personal injury, and Workers Compensation cases.

The new Helpers build on a series of 15 other menu-driven treatment screens already in the software, according to Cesar Barragan, division operating officer. The intelligent field-based Helpers display images of spinal areas and enable chiropractors to write sentences visually by checking off detail boxes alongside the vertebrae in a selected area. The name of the vertebra and the condition examined are automatically placed at the bottom of the form as parts of a sentence that is built out by checking indications such as subluxations or muscular trigger points.

"The ability to write sentences dynamically using visual input is a tremendous labor-saver," Barragan observed. "Range-of-motion is an area in which this capability is especially valuable. The words in our Helpers are editable to each doctor's preferences, and as he or she moves through boxes representing points of pain or reduced range of motion, the 'clicks' form the structure of the sentence. On completion of the exam, the chiropractor clicks on 'all other okay' and a completed, error-free sentence goes into the record."

Other Enhancements

The enhanced graphical user interface expedites navigation and movement through the exam process, using drop-down menus versus forward-backward access of daily notes and reexaminations, enabling operation to use either a keyboard or a mouse.

The basic report form, originally designed for automobile accident reporting, now has similar fields and functionality features for Workers Compensation examination and treatment. The non-relevant auto accident portion can be disabled for Workers Compensation case reporting.

The enhancements for wellness reporting are not strict in the manner of other reports, but are significant for internal record-keeping, Barragan said, noting that doctors need documentation in event of liability claims and for simply tracking patient treatments and status.

A new feature that allows copying of information from the Initial exam note to the first Daily Note enables precise transfer between documents.
