ACOM's iSeries Division Launches Dial-In Consulting Service for Post-Install Technical Assistance; Addresses Needs of Small/Down-Sized I.T. Departments.

Business Editors

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2003

The iSeries Division of ACOM (language) ACOM - An early system on the IBM 705.

[Listed in CACM 2(5):16 (May 1959)].
Solutions Inc. has introduced a new dial-in consulting service Noun 1. consulting service - service provided by a professional advisor (e.g., a lawyer or doctor or CPA etc.)
service - work done by one person or group that benefits another; "budget separately for goods and services"
that goes beyond the support levels of the company's standard maintenance contracts and allows customers with technical problems to make appointments to work directly with ACOM technical experts online to identify and recommend solutions to problems, it was announced today by Gregory T. Church, vice president of marketing, communications and product management.

Under the new service, ACOM Technical Consulting, ACOM representatives will access a customer site remotely, work through the problem situation, analyze the activity and specify the adjustments that must be made in order to restore the system functionality.

"This service will be of special value to users with typically small I.T. operations, users who have been forced to downsize Downsize

Reducing the size of a company by eliminating workers and/or divisions within the company.

their technical staffs, or others that have experienced a level of turnover such that they no longer have ACOM-trained personnel on-board," Church said. "With ACOM Technical Consulting, they have virtual staff at their disposal, to use as needed as needed prn. See prn order. , and they pay only for the time that they use."

A typical case involved the Peru-Indiana Duke's Hospital, which was experiencing difficulty with the operation of ACOM's EZeDocs/400 Automerge feature with its Keene Hospital Information System under certain settings. Duke's Hospital uses EZeDocs/400 to create patient armbands, labels and registration face sheets from stored electronic form templates and Keene system data. For reasons that neither I.T. Director Ron Ehmer nor his clinical analyst were unable to identify, the system began running the same Automerge multiple times after a certain value was changed. Ehmer was not at Duke's Hospital when EZeDocs initial training took place, and he has no programmers on staff to do the problem-solving.

"We spent a whole day trying to find the problem," Ehmer said. "ACOM's technical expert dialed-in to our system, experimented with settings and adjustments and was able to identify the problem and tell us what needed to be done within about one and one-half hours. We were very pleased with his work. This ability to solve on-site problems will be of immense value to I.T. shops that are short on programming and support resources."
