ACNielsen Acquires Entertainment Data, Inc.; Preeminent Source Of Motion Picture Box Office Information Joins World's Leading Market Research Firm.

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1997--In a move to further expand its global market research services into new industries, ACNielsen Corporation (NYSE: ART) today announced that it has acquired Entertainment Data, Inc. (EDI), the preeminent source of box office information for the motion picture industry.

Based in Beverly Hills, California, EDI provides overnight information on box office receipts to studios and exhibitors in the U.S. motion picture industry. EDI also has operations in the U.K., Germany, Spain and France. The information provided by EDI helps determine where and how long a movie plays, as well as how advertising and promotional dollars are spent, and is widely quoted in the entertainment media.
