ACM Medical Laboratory Encourages Community Involvement to Support Stronger Laws Against Drug Test Tampering.ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- a full service testing laboratory, is one of the largest and fastest growing regional reference laboratories in the USA. ACM (Association for Computing Machinery, New York, www.acm.org) A membership organization founded in 1947 dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of information processing. In addition to awards and publications, ACM also maintains special interest groups (SIGs) in the computer field. Medical Laboratory, a division of Unity Health Systems, is pleased to announce that it will once again be a corporate sponsor for the 2007 Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association's (DATIA) Conference in Memphis, TN, April (19-21st). ACM Medical Laboratory's Certified Scientist, Patrick Booth, will be on hand Saturday, April 21st for a presentation discussing the current state of adulterants and their use today, including their effects on the drug testing process. His presentation and presence at the conference is receiving a great deal of attention nationally as his discussion will focus on just how important it is for laboratories to continually improve their validation testing processes. "As a medical laboratory we catch people everyday that are using adulterants to try to pass a drug test," says Booth. "Our main concern is fighting the unknown and constantly being able to find these substances so we can have a positive effect on improving safety within the workplace and community. What it boils down to is really a safety issue especially with the Department of Transportation (DOT). The key is to keep up with it and try to make selling adulterant substances illegal over the internet." Booth suggests that if you want to see how prevalent the problem is today, take a quick look at the number of internet hits an adulterant Web site receives. "In 2002, adulterant Web sites were receiving about 160,000 hits," says Booth. "Today, in 2007 that number has risen to 18 million hits." Booth has dedicated a large portion of his presentation to help create awareness of the problem, and encourage citizens to get involved to help pass two bills now waiting in Congress to become federal laws. These bills would prohibit the manufacture, marketing, or distribution of products or substances designed or intended to defraud To make a Misrepresentation of an existing material fact, knowing it to be false or making it recklessly without regard to whether it is true or false, intending for someone to rely on the misrepresentation and under circumstances in which such person does rely on it to his or a drug test. "We need people to get involved and contact their congress representatives to help create laws that would prevent adulterant use," says Booth. "In many cases, it's a matter of life and death
