ACLU plans appeal of Neb. graduation prayer case. Acting on behalf of an anonymous plaintiff, the ACLU ACLU: see American Civil Liberties Union. sued the school district earlier this year over its policy of allowing student-led prayers during graduation. The board discontinued the policy but then invited board member Jim Scheer to speak during the ceremony. During his remarks, Scheer led the crowd in recitation rec·i·ta·tion n. 1. a. The act of reciting memorized materials in a public performance. b. The material so presented. 2. a. Oral delivery of prepared lessons by a pupil. b. of the Lord's Prayer. The ACLU contends that the board invited Scheer knowing he would pray out loud. But U.S. District Judge Laurie Smith Laurie Smith (b.1957) was an American pornographic actress and model.She was active in porn from 1979-1992. Laurie was best known for her wispy brown hair,naturally curvy figure, sweet and soft voice,and girl next door personality. Camp disagreed, ruling that school officials had no way of knowing beforehand what Scheer would say. |
