"This upcoming vote in the House is a critical vote - and we are hopeful that legislators will get the message that most Americans do not want to see marriage redefined to include anything other than a union between one man and one woman. The ACLJ continues to collect signatures on its Petition to Preserve Marriage online at www.aclj.org - which calls on Congress to approve a federal marriage amendment. Leadership in the House has said a vote on a federal marriage amendment will occur before Congress adjourns in early October.

In addition to working on the legislative front, the ACLJ is working in the courts in a number of states including New Jersey, Massachusetts Massachusetts (măsəch`sĭts), most populous of the New England states of the NE United States. , and Connecticut to protect marriage as an institution between one man and one woman.
