for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The ACLJ says the Senate should move quickly to vote on the nomination before the high court convenes in October. Confirmation hearings will now begin on September 12th.

"The delay in starting the confirmation hearings should in no way give some a green light to delay a vote on the nomination of John Roberts," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, who is supporting the nomination. "John Roberts is extremely well qualified to succeed Chief Justice Rehnquist. His judicial philosophy of interpreting the Constitution and his dedication to upholding the rule of law will serve the high court well - especially as Chief Justice. There is ample time to conduct a comprehensive hearing for John Roberts and for the Senate to vote on his nomination. To delay the process and leave the high court without a Chief Justice when the term begins would be problematic. The Senate must move quickly and provide a fair forum for John Roberts.  want and something that John Roberts deserves."
