It is also one of the most powerful committees in Congress; among its wide range of jurisdictions is investigation of federal judicial nominees and oversight of  should act without delay and vote on the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel Alito Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr. (born April 1, 1950) is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Educated at Princeton University and Yale Law School, Alito served as a United States attorney and a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit  tomorrow - as scheduled - clearing the way for the full Senate to give Judge Alito an up-or-down vote later this week.

"This is not a time for some in the Senate to play the delay game with the nomination of Judge Alito," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, who is working to support the Judge Alito nomination. "After a weeklong confirmation hearing where Judge Alito fully answered hundreds of questions during 18 hours of testimony, the time has come for the Senate to fulfill its constitutional obligations and vote in the Judiciary Committee Judiciary Committee may refer to:
  • U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary
  • U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary
tomorrow so the full Senate can vote up-or-down later this week. There is no reason to delay the vote and any attempt to engage in political foot-dragging can only put into question the institutional credibility of the Senate confirmation process. This is the time to vote and confirm Judge Alito as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."

Sekulow says the ACLJ is launching radio advertisements this week urging the Senate to vote on the Alito nomination without delay. The American Center for Law and Justice specializes in constitutional law and is based in Washington, D.C. and is online at www.aclj.org.
