"The decision by People for the American Way to oppose the confirmation of John Roberts is predictable and reflects a desperate attempt by the liberal left that ultimately will fail," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, who is cited in the PFAW report issued today and who is working to support the Roberts nomination. "First, PFAW argued that there were not enough documents available to examine the nominee's record. Now, PFAW issues a lengthy report critical of the nominee's record and judicial philosophy. The fact is that John Roberts embraces a sound judicial philosophy that focuses on interpreting the Constitution - not legislating leg·is·late v. leg·is·lat·ed, leg·is·lat·ing, leg·is·lates v.intr. We're not surprised that PFAW and others will do whatever they can to create controversy over one of the most qualified and respected nominees ever to be named to the high court. In the end, though, efforts by PFAW and others will fail and John Roberts will be confirmed as the 109th Justice to the Supreme Court of the United States."
