Former educators feted by foreign-language group

Three former Eugene educators were honored in Salem at the recent 40th anniversary celebration of the Confederation of Foreign Language Teachers.

They are Duane Adcock, who served as the organization's first president and was instrumental in establishing the Eugene School District's immersion and International High School programs; and Gerald Webking and Bert Villanueva, former South Eugene High School teachers who were named Foreign Language Teachers of the Year and served on the organization's board.

Alpha Delta Kappa sorority honors educators

SPRINGFIELD - Eight Springfield School District educators were honored in a ceremony last week as outstanding educators by the international Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, Iota chapter. The honorees are Michelle Jensen, coordinator of afterschool programs; Kari Vetter, a second-grade teacher at Yolanda Elementary; Debbie Weirich, a third-grade teacher at Centennial Elementary; Annette Peters, a kindergarten teacher at Mount Vernon Elementary; Wendy Sanders, an eighth-grade teacher at Springfield Middle School; Debbie Knapp, a grade 2/3 blend teacher at Brattain Elementary; and Anna Alden, a seventh-grade teacher at Agnes Stewart Middle School. Also honored was Nancy Bray, the district's 2009 Teacher of the Year, who retired last year as English Language Learner coordinator.
