Siuslaw library assistant named Classified Employee of the Year

Wendy Rohner, a library assistant in the Siuslaw School District, has been named Oregon's Classified Employee of the Year by the Oregon School Employees Association, a labor union representing more than 20,000 employees. She was nominated by Siuslaw chapter vice president Nick Woodworth, with letters of recommendation from the superintendent, chapter secretary and a second-grade teacher at Siuslaw Elementary School. They praised her for her union activism, community involvement and dedication to the students she serves. She'll be presented with a trophy at an awards banquet June 25.

Malabon Elementary students do well in Bethel poster contest

Students at Malabon Elementary School won eight of 10 prizes in the We Are Bethel celebration poster contest, held June 4. Fourth-grader Mikaela Standifer took the grand prize, as determined by a popular vote of festival attendees. Other winners from the school were Siciliy Griffo, Roari Melville, Ally Townsend, Abby Stock, Deborah Cole, Kameron Taylor and Hannah Nealy. The school, with leadership from music teacher Michael "Mule" Green, has been showcasing student art regularly in a cafeteria gallery.

LibertyBank has announced the first three recipients of its "Making a Difference" scholarship for local high school students who plan to attend Lane Community College. They are Sean Rodgers from Churchill High School, Elyse Thompson from North Eugene High School North Eugene High School is a public high school of about 1,200 students in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Six students were awarded $1,000 scholarships, either a Earl Hulstrom Scholarship or the Eugene Masonic Family Scholarship, at a ceremony earlier this month. They are Elizabeth Conway of Junction City High School, Alyssa Kropf of Harrisburg High School, Elizabeth Hubbard of Sheldon High School, Haley Mesnik of Churchill High School, Anand Patel of South Eugene High School South Eugene High School is a public high school located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. National College Access Network honors three seniors

Three local high school seniors were among six in Oregon and 40 nationwide to receive $2,000 from the National College Access Network, the Oregon University System The Oregon University System (OUS) consists of seven public, four-year universities in the State of Oregon administered by the Chancellor of the OUS, who serves at the will and pleasure of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education.  and the Oregon Student Assistance Commission The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC), established by the Oregon Legislature in 1959, is primarily charged with administering student financial aid programs, and through its Office of Degree Authorization, authorizing and regulating the granting of degrees by institutions  announced this week.
