ACF--Central Coast supports Waterfall Springs Sanctuary.


On behalf of the Waterfall Springs Sanctuary at Kulnura near Gosford, the ACF Central Coast Branch is asking for support and active help for the sanctuary, which is concerned that their endangered wallaby wallaby: see kangaroo.

Any of about 25 species of medium-sized kangaroos, found chiefly in Australia. Brush wallabies (11 species) are built like the big kangaroos but differ in dentition. Rock wallabies live among rocks, usually near water.
 breeding program will fail unless more volunteers step forward to assist. ACF-CC has been a supporter of Waterfall Springs for about three years, making several small donations, and one of our members, lan Sutton, has been running a 'Work for the Dole' team there for about 18 months (one day per week) involved in grounds maintenance, repairs and bush regeneration.

The sanctuary is home to more than 50 endangered wallabies that are being bred for release in to the wild from 2007. Species include the brush tailed rock wallaby, yellow footed rock wallaby, bridled nail-tailed wallaby Average bridled nail-tailed wallabies measure 600mm (including the head and body) with an average tail measurement of 450mm. Coloration is grey with some yellow throughout. There are white stripes that start from the ears and continue to under the arms, giving the appearance of the animal , re-necked pademelon pademelon: see kangaroo.  and the parma wallaby

The refuge was set up 12 years ago by the owner, Lloyd Oldfield, and operates as a non-profit organisation through financial donations and the dedication of volunteers. The sanctuary is in constant need of volunteer help in all areas including animal care, grounds maintenance, administration, repairs and bush regeneration, especially now wildlife carers are needed to ensure the long-term success of the breeding program.

The sanctuary is receiving help and support from such institutions as the Adelaide Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, on the fringe of Namadgi National Park, is a short drive from the city of Canberra, Australia. The reserve covers an area of approximately 54.50 km² and consists of a large valley floor, the Tidbinbilla Mountain and the Gibraltar range.  and Taronga Zoo.
