ACEI awards program.

Each year at our Annual Conference, part of the Business Meeting is devoted to the presentation of awards. I particularly enjoy this segment of our meeting because I personally know most of the award winners and why they are being honored. I think ACEI ACEI Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor
ACEI Association for Childhood Education International
ACEI Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland
is very fortunate to be blessed with so many members who are richly deserving de·serv·ing

of special recognition for their dedication and hard work. Indeed, countless members over the years have been recognized for their outstanding efforts to further the goals and purposes of the Association.

Having an awards program is, I believe, an important and necessary part of any professional or trade organization. Members need to know that their volunteer work is appreciated, and that their service helps make it possible for the group to continue to carry out its mission--in ACEI's case, to support children and those who work with them. Such recognition is both professionally and personally rewarding. For student members, recognition of their academic accomplishments, classroom experiences as student teachers, volunteer work in the community, conference attendance/participation, and leadership potential are all-important.

A successful awards program also benefits the sponsoring organization, in terms of, for example, added prestige, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most , member satisfaction, and promotion of future leaders Future Leaders is a UK schools-led charitable organisation that aims to widen the pool of talented leaders especially for urban challenging secondary schools. , and spirit of togetherness that fills the air as award winners are announced. All of us, I believe, enjoy seeing our friends and colleagues receive a well-deserved award and this has to be especially true for those who care enough to submit a nomination.

I wish more of you could have attended the Business Meeting in New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded  last April to see members like Shannon Lozano, Marlene Morgan, and Keren Lugo receive their Student Leadership Awards, and to see Lydia Ibanez, who travels to the conference each year from the Philippines, receive special recognition for her long-time support of the ideals and goals of ACEI. If you were at the Business Meeting, you also saw Jim Hoot receive the 2004 Patty Smith Hill Award, ACEI's highest honor. The recognition of these award winners and many others; like the University of Houston, Clear Lake ACEI Branch, which carried home four awards, made everybody in the auditorium auditorium

feel proud to be a member of the ACEI family. This is why we have an awards program: for recognition and mutual support, and to remind everyone of the importance of ACEI's mission. Marilyn B. Gardner, ACEI Director of Membership, has this to say about the Awards Program:
