ACE bestows scholarships.


The ACE awarded 50 four-year scholarships--earlier this month totaling more than $75,000 in 2004--to deserving graduates of this year's program.

The scholarships were announced at ACE's (architects, constructors, engineers) Mentor Program annual luncheon on May 6th at the Union League Club benefiting the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. The program is dedicated to providing career direction to young people.

 Scholarship recipient, and Lauren Pacheco from East Rockaway High School East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School (often abbreviated ERHS) is a co-educational six-year secondary school in East Rockaway, New York, and the sole high school in Nassau County, New York, School District 41, the smallest school district in Nassau County. , the McGraw-Hill recipient, received the top prizes of $5,000.

The Mel Feinstein Scholarship went to Katina Kremelberg from Kellenberg Memorial High School Kellenberg Memorial High School is a private, coeducational Roman Catholic high school in Uniondale, Long Island. In addition to the high school proper, Kellenberg includes the Bro. Joseph C. . The prize, presented by Anita Feinstein, honors the memory of her husband, Mel Feinstein, former Manager of Administration, Engineering and Construction on Randall's Island for MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

The Rino M. "Ray" Monti Scholarship went to Antonio Pellegino from Cardinal Spellman High School Cardinal Spellman High School is the name of several schools including:
  • Cardinal Spellman High School (Brockton, Massachusetts)
  • Cardinal Spellman High School (New York City)
. Ed Rytter presented the prize in memory of Ray Monti, an ACE founder who worked for most of his career for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

Richard T. Anderson, president of the New York Building Congress, presented a $4,000 scholarship to Zhuo Quan Li from Lafayette High School Lafayette High School is the name of many secondary schools in the United States, among them:
  • Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Alabama
  • Lafayette High School in Mayo, Florida
  • Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Georgia
. This scholarship is presented in connection with the George A. Fox public service award.

Dionisio Cortes received the International Masonry Institute's $4,000 scholarship.

The scholarship was presented by Joan Calambokidis, president of IMI.

Honorees at the luncheon included three of New York City's leaders representing both the public and private sectors: David A. Adelhardt, president, Adelhardt Construction Corporation; William H. Goldstein, president and CEO, New York City New York City: see New York, city.
