ACE JOE'S GLOVE AFFAIR WITH CUP; JUNIORS BO'NESS 0 HILL O'BEATH 1.

Byline: JOHN SPOWART reports

HOTSTOP Joe Houston Joe Houston is a Tenor saxophonist who played jazz and R&B. He who was born in Austin, TX on July 11 in either 1924 or as his birth certificate says 1926. He lived with his mother and sister in the suburb of Bastrop. He studied trumpet in school and changed to saxophone later.  was the Hill hero - producing two super second-half saves to shut out Bo'ness.

And Steven Bathgate's 19th-minute strike was enough to knock United out of the Fife and Lothians Cup at the first hurdle.

The visitors had a strong wind at their backs in the first half and tried to blow away their rivals with an attacking onslaught.

They went in front when John McCulloch John McCulloch (November 15, 1806 - May 15, 1879) was a Whig member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

floated a free-kick into the box and Bathgate volleyed past Bo'ness keeper Greg Logan.

The striker came close to adding to his tally when he lined up a free-kick just outside the box but Logan moved swiftly across his goal to make the save.

Bo'ness only managed a couple of efforts on goal in the first half.

A Kevin Mullen shot went wide then an angled drive from Andy Scott This article is about the Canadian politician. For the musician, see Sweet (band).

 was easily saved by Houston.

However, backed by the strong wind after the break, Bo'ness put the visitors' defence under constant pressure.

And Houston made his first significant save when he got down to turn a rasping low drive from Scott Brown round the post.

Bo'ness surged forward in an attempt to get back into the tie but the stuffy Beath defence made life difficult for them.

And the visitors looked dangerous when they broke up the park.

With 20 minutes left Bo'ness thought they had made the breakthrough when David Morrison fired a shot towards goal. But again Houston did his job magnificently, getting a hand to the ball to tip it over the bar.

The Beath defending was desperate and nerve-jangling at times but they stuck to the task.

And despite almost constant Bo'ness pressure in the closing stages the away side clung on to their lead to earn a narrow but deserved victory.
