ACCESSLINE SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY AWARDED PATENT PROTECTION.BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1995--AccessLine Technologies announced today that its AccessLine System has been awarded patent protection (United Stated Patent No. 5,375,161). The company has received the second of multiple patents it has applied for covering many aspects of its Intelligent Network Service Node which delivers a suite of One Person, One Number services. The company has been developing the technology over 11 years and was first in the industry to deploy single number services. The company's comprehensive IN software applications have been commercially available in the telecommunications marketplace for six years. The AccessLine System is an integrated enhanced services platform which gives a subscriber a single telephone number to reach him or her at any location. When the One Person, One Number service was conceived by AccessLine, it engendered a paradigm shift A dramatic change in methodology or practice. It often refers to a major change in thinking and planning, which ultimately changes the way projects are implemented. For example, accessing applications and data from the Web instead of from local servers is a paradigm shift. See paradigm. in the telecommunications industry -- phone numbers were no longer attached to a place or a particular piece of hardware. The patent received covers many of the features which allow subscribers to route calls from one location to another and to change the routing manually or automatically based on a predetermined pre·de·ter·mine v. pre·de·ter·mined, pre·de·ter·min·ing, pre·de·ter·mines v.tr. 1. The patent has 50 claims. The One Person, One Number technology was invented in 1983 by Robert M. Fuller, now chairman of AccessLine; patents were applied for in 1984. "These patents ratify AccessLine's leadership position and differentiate us in the PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1. marketplace," said Fuller. "We developed the concept of attaching a telephone number to a person rather than a place over 12 years ago, and we are now extremely gratified grat·i·fy tr.v. grat·i·fied, grat·i·fy·ing, grat·i·fies 1. To please or satisfy: His achievement gratified his father. See Synonyms at please. 2. to receive this recognition and acknowledgment." Today, when many companies are trying to duplicate the features and functions of the AccessLine System, sometimes with expensive hardware solutions, the original single number concept of AccessLine, which transcends hardware, is gaining notice. "We are now working on new developments which will be as exciting as the original concepts now under patent," said Fuller. "We have several pending applications for enhancements which will make the services more automatic and easier to use by the mass market, just in time for PCS." The patent received today is the second received by AccessLine since the technology was invented. The award of this patent and the anticipated award of patents pending provide protection to AccessLine's licensees in their provision of state-of-the-art PCS services to their customers and adds value to the PCS marketplace. In addition to patents, the company also owns service marks which reflect the central ideals of PCS. These service marks include One Person, One Number, The Phone Number Assigned to People Not Places, One Number to Reach Me Anywhere, the Smart Number and Personal AccessLine. The products of the company are also marketed in some areas under the names ContactLine and PrimeLine. AccessLine Technologies has been developing applications for the personal communications marketplace and partnering with telephone and wireless companies to deliver these services to mobile professionals. The market is growing rapidly. "The market for individual services, single number access, and call control capabilities is beginning to explode," said Kimberly Tassin, spokesperson for AccessLine. "With the allocation by the FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite.
