ACC goes high-design for new D&D showroom.[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] ACC Construction recently completed the build-out of a very highly-designed space in the new D&D Building at 150 East 58th Street: the new showroom for Listone Giordano, a high-end Italian wood floor and wall surfacing company. The showroom is the exclusive distributor of this product in the U.S; it is a division of 3L Floors, a larger company based in New Jersey.? The space is 1,600 square feet, which presented a design challenge to ?the architects, William Ruh, Richard Rudman and Steve DiGiusseppe of DPM Architecture. They had to find a way to incorporate many functions into one large room, as the space was too small to be segregated: the client asked for a meeting/refreshment area, work area, presentation/multi-media area, sample area and product display and sales area. The design solution was to make the space?completely transparent by utilizing full height frameless glass panels that serve double duty: they act as walls, sectioning off various functions, and are also used to display the product. Oversized panels of product samples are mounted like very large paintings on?the glass panels. A floating suspended ceiling? conceals the utilities above while providing a strategic?and flexible lighting program for product display. Free-standing sculptural millwork elements, part of the company's product line, are introduced at the entrance, and a large feature wall, Listone's Boiserie system, encloses hidden speakers and a fiat-screen video within its low-relief, contoured surface. "We loved this project," said Michele Medaglia, president of ACC Construction. "It was a pleasure to work on it, and the design that DPM came up with is both elegant and practical. This showroom enables 3L & Co. to get the highest level of attention and effect while displaying the Listone Giordano product lines. |
