ACAS calls for employers to beat skills shortages by making the most of older workers.

See Carotid stenosis.  has launched its new advisory leaflet Employing Older Workers to help employers make the most of older workers. It looks at some of the stereotypes about them and gives practical advice on what to consider when recruiting; planning for the future and managing older workers.

 against older workers when recruiting. There are currently 20 million people aged 50 and over in the UK and by 2030 this is expected to reach 27 million.

"Of course, the best way to do that is to ensure that they have systems in place to make sure they are fair to all their workers, regardless of age. This is particularly important with the legislation banning age discrimination coming into force in October next year.

"Our advice is easy to understand and practical. We aim to be the first port of call for employers who need advice on these sorts of issues. This booklet gives employers useful and straightforward information on what they need to consider to help them recruit and retain older workers."
