ACA resources offer solutions to growing substance abuse problem.


Much like the rest of the nation, detention and community corrections officials are faced with the overwhelming challenge of treating offender substance abuse problems. The American Correctional Association The American Correctional Association is an association of providers of services to prisons in the United States. It holds an annual trade show where products used in prisons are shown to prospective purchasers.

It was formerly known as the American Prison Association.
 (ACA ACA - Application Control Architecture ) has published several resources which will better prepare you to work with these individuals.

Arresting Addictions. Drug Education and Relapse RELAPSE. The condition of one who, after having abandoned a course of vice, returns to it again. Vide Recidive.  Prevention in Corrections by Robert B. Alexander, Ph.D. and George J. Pratsinak, Ph.D., presents a drug education and relapse prevention program for substance abuse specialists and counselors. Derived from the authors' nearly 35 years of combined experience working with prison inmates in drug abuse treatment, this manual helps counselors introduce inmates to treatment, motivate them and help them avoid relapse. General factors of drug abuse are covered, including a detailed history and description of the major categories of abused drugs. This resource includes an appendix with handouts and information useful for drug abuse education and relapse prevention treatment. Getting High and Doing Time: What's the Connection takes a look at the connection between incarceration Confinement in a jail or prison; imprisonment.

Police officers and other law enforcement officers are authorized by federal, state, and local lawmakers to arrest and confine persons suspected of crimes. The judicial system is authorized to confine persons convicted of crimes.
