ABUSE SHELTER PLANNED : HUD TO FUND FACILITY IN NORTHEAST VALLEY.

In what will be the largest shelter of its kind in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

An apartment complex will be rehabilitated and converted into 39-units, and operated by the 2-year-old group Women Advancing the Valley Through Education, Economics and Empowerment em·pow·er

The project, known as Harbour Community, is designed to help women learn to live independently.

The complex is expected to be open one year from now. It will be the third shelter of its kind in the Valley and the only one servicing the Northeast Valley. The location of such shelters are kept confidential to protect the families.

Most of the units at Harbour Community will have two or three bedrooms to accommodate women with children.

``Transitional housing offers long-term care long-term care (LTC),
n the provision of medical, social, and personal care services on a recurring or continuing basis to persons with chronic physical or mental disorders.

Another agency known as Haven Hills offers 30-day emergency housing with 36 beds in a small apartment complex in the West Valley. And like WAVE, the agency currently is rehabilitating a 26-unit apartment complex for transitional housing for families who can stay 18 months in the central part of the Valley.
