ABSOLUTEVALUE INTRODUCES WIRELESS NETWORK ANALYSIS/TEST TOOL.AbsoluteValue Systems, Melbourne, Fla., has introduced a remote wireless network analysis and testing tool. The AirScope(tm) allows for the testing, troubleshooting, and monitoring of a wireless network from any location with wired network access. The product consists of the AirScope Remote (tm) hardware capture unit and the AirScope(tm) application software for display and analysis of the network data. It also includes the communication protocol drivers for data and command exchange between the application software and the AirScope(tm) Remote. The AirScope(tm) Remote hardware capture unit allows the user to observe all the transmitted data in a wireless network. AbsoluteValue Systems (AVS) developed the capability for the remote unit to stream the observed data through any IP-based network to a PC running the AirScope(tm) display and analysis software. The network developer or administrator is presented with a comprehensive display of every data packet communicated within their WLAN. Wireless product developers, installers, and network administrators can use this tool to gain complete visibility of the wireless activity in a network, including the IEEE802.11 management and control packets which are necessary to perform in-depth testing and analysis of wireless LAN products and systems. AirScope(tm) can be used by wireless internet service providers and wireless "hotspot" network operators to be sure their networks are operating efficiently. The remote capability of the AirScope(tm) will increase the productivity of network managers and technicians by eliminating the need to travel to a WLAN location in order to perform troubleshooting. Plus, the remote unit is small and unobtrusive so it can be placed almost anywhere. The unit is housed in a small lightweight aluminum enclosure approximately 5" x 4" x 2" which has been shielded to meet FCC Class B requirements for electronic devices. The AirScope(tm) is the first in a family of test and analysis products from AVS. IEEE802.11a and IEEE802.11g products are planned for 2003. Pricing and availability The AirScope(tm) for 802.11b is currently in beta testing. Production units will be available by the end of Q3, 2002. Various pricing options will be offered depending on hardware quantity, software license, and the service and support package. .
