A MOTHER battling for parents to be told if their child is planning an abortion has revealed that her 16-year-old daughter is pregnant.

Susan Axon axon: see nervous system; synapse. , 51, has launched a High Court fight to stop girls under 16 having an abortion without their parents' knowledge.

Susan, whose daughter Joy is expecting her baby on her 17th birthday in March, said: "She was supposed to be staying with a friend but she came home and said 'Mum, I'm pregnant'."

She added: I have to put it in perspective. While it may not be ideal, it's not the end of the world."

Susan said Joy already knew the sex of her child and had chosen a name.

There was no question of her daughter having an abortion. She added: "She wanted the baby from the moment she knew she was pregnant and she has a very strong maternal instinct Maternal instinct may refer to:
  • The maternal bond that forms between a mother and her child
  • Maternal Instinct (Stargate SG-1) an episode from the TV series Stargate SG-1
  • Maternal Instinct (Danny Phantom), an episode of Danny Phantom.

Susan, who lives in Manchester, began her legal challenge a year ago when Joy was 15 and her second daughter Amber was 12.

Susan had an abortion 20 years ago, which she bitterly regrets.

She does not want her daughters to go through the same experience.
