ABN AMRO Expects Sharp Rise in Profit in First Half 1999.AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 1999-- At the General Meeting of Shareholders of ABN AMRO ABN AMRO Algemene Bank Nederland-Amsterdam Roterdam Bank (Dutch bank) Holding N.V. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : AAN AAN American Association of Neurology ) held on May 6, 1999, Mr. Jan Kalff, chairman of the Managing Board, announced that the financial year 1999 had seen a good start, and once again confirmed the feasibility of the bank's financial targets. ABN AMRO now expects the net profit over the first half of 1999 to show a strong growth compared with the good result over the same period in 1998. All divisions contributed to this positive profit development, which was caused partly by the favorable circumstances in the financial markets, the improved situation in Asia, good progress of business at Banco Real and the excellent quality of the loan portfolio.
