This law requires that commercial high-rise buildings taller than 75 feet retrofit their emergency evacuation For other uses, see Evacuation.

Emergency evacuation is the movement of persons from a dangerous place due to the threat or occurrence of a disastrous event. Examples are the evacuation of a building due to a bomb threat or fire and the evacuation of a district because of a

Dubbed the Compliance Alliance[R], the new initiative brings together a "best in class" alliance of some of the nation's leading companies, including ABM ABM: see guided missile.

, GE Supply, RPM (Retail Project Managers), Brite Flight and Jessup Manufacturing, providing all the materials, installation, reporting and certification services necessary to insure that building owners comply with the new building codes spelled out in Local Law 26's Reference Standard 6-1 (RS 6-1).

Based on the recommendations of the Department of Buildings' World Trade Center Building Code Task Force, all high-rise office buildings will be required to have exit path markings that comply with the newly created LL26 & RS 6-1.

As of July 1, 2006, the effected existing high-rise office buildings must have all of the work completed, including filing of the necessary affidavits with the Department, or they must have a signed contract to complete the work.

Building owners and managers must adhere to adhere to

The entire stairwell needs to be evaluated prior to installation, and the traffic by building occupants should also be taken into account.
