ABITIBI-PRICE WILL REDUCE NEWSPRINT PRODUCTION BY 140,000 TONS

TORONTO, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Abitibi-Price (NYSE: ABY) announced today that it is scheduling 80,000 tons of newsprint downtime for the remainder of 1993. This will result in the company taking a total of 140,000 tons of newsprint out of production this year in order to bring the company's available supply of newsprint in line with expected market demand.
The schedule for the remaining curtailment of production will likely affect the company's newsprint mills in both the United States and Canada.
