ABITIBI-PRICE ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITYOF 235,000 MORE TONS OF RECYCLED NEWSPRINT

 CLAIBORNE, Ala., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Abitibi-Price (NYSE: ABY) today announced the official opening of a newsprint recycling facility at Alabama River Newsprint Co., with the capacity to provide its customers with up to 235,000 tons of newsprint per year with an average recycled content above 20 percent.
 The newsprint mill, built in 1990, has the flexibility to boost recycled content levels as high as 40 percent in response to specific customer needs and will annually remove over 70,000 tons of old newspapers and old magazines from landfills in the southern United States.
 Thor Thorsteinson and Jim O'Brien, co-general managers for this business unit, said, "This facility is an excellent example of Alabama River Newsprint's commitment to satisfy its customers' requirements for a quality recycled newsprint. Our customers know that a recycled sheet allows them to contribute to a cleaner environment."
 This facility, along with recycling operations in Augusta, Georgia, and Thunder Bay and Iroquois Falls, Ontario, will allow Abitibi-Price to supply nearly a million tonnes of newsprint with recycled content to the North American market by the end of this year. In the process, Abitibi- Price will divert over 250,000 tons of old newspapers and magazines from the waste stream.

 Abitibi-Price, a Canadian-based forest products company, manufactures newsprint and uncoated groundwood papers at 11 mills in North America and markets these products to customers around the world. The company is also a converter and distributor of paper and other information-related products.
