ABIOMED forms collaborative agreement with Rabin Medical Center to test AbioCor implantable replacement heart.


ABIOMED ABIOMED is a Danvers, Massachusetts-based company that builds the AbioCor Artificial Heart, the first fully implanted device of its kind. The AbioCor was approved for Humanitarian Use on September 5, 2006. , Inc., Danvers, MA, announced it has reached a collaborative agreement with the Rabin Medical Center The Rabin Medical Center is a medical center in Petah Tikva, Israel. It is currently the second largest medical center in Israel after Sheba Medical Center, having lost the title of largest in 2006. , Petach-Tikva, Israel, with the objective of demonstrating device the team readiness of ABIOMED's AbioCor Implantable Replacement Heart in preparation for human trials. The company says the Rabin Medical Center is the first of a select number of respected heart cardiac surgery Cardiac surgery is surgery on the heart and/or great vessels performed by a cardiac surgeon. Frequently, it is done to treat complications of ischemic heart disease (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), correct congenital heart disease, or treat valvular heart disease  centers outside the US to be in device and team readiness training for initial human trials with the battery-powered AbioCor Heart.
