ABEF committed to youth, industry growth. The Agri-Business Educational Foundation (ABEF) exists to support college students and young professionals who are dedicated to pursuing an agribusiness-related career. Through NAMA, ABEF awards over $10,000 in scholarships annually, supports the NAMA Student Careers Program, provides training and seminar opportunities and coordinates an intern search program. The ABEF is funded solely by contributions from individuals, organizations and companies who believe that helping provide students and young professionals with tools that enhance their skills will lead to more successful careers, ultimately benefiting the industry. Several opportunities exist to support ABEF. The Founder's Club recognizes significant contributions by individuals and companies, usually extended over a five-year period. This past year, Primedia and LEE Agri-MEDIA joined Pioneer, A DuPont Company and Progressive Farmer as members of the Founder's Club, Chairman's Level. The Chairman's Level represents a contribution of $40,000. During 2005, ABEF has received a $40,000 pledge from FastLine Publications. Making contributions earmarked specifically for scholarships is another option for supporting ABEF. In that spirit, through an initial contribution of $25,000 from Successful Farming, the Fergie Scholarship Endowment Fund was created to increase the number and amount of scholarships given each year. Most recently, Broadhead + Company and client UPI jointly pledged $2,500 annually for scholarship support. Individuals may support the scholarship activities of the ABEF by becoming members of The Century Club--a program with a goal of generating financial support by way of a $100 contribution from each of 100 agribusiness leaders. This past year, 42 Century Club members renewed their commitment to this important initiative and an additional 20 new members for a total of 62. "The board and operating committee are pleased and appreciative of all the support ABEF received this past year," said ABEF Chair Mick Sibbel. "The increase in corporate and individual pledges indicates an appreciation of the important mission ABEF provides for the future of our industry."
