He served as Head Baseball Coach from 1958 through 1979, being named NAIA NAIA abbr. National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes Coach of the Year for Area 1 in 1971 and NCAA Division III Coach of the Year for District 8 in 1978 and 1979. In 1976, Arce was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement, the colleges honored him by naming the baseball facility Arce Field. Since 1962, Arce has committed his summers and sabbatical leaves to developing baseball internationally. He is the first American baseball coach to have provided baseball instruction in Sweden (1962), Czechoslovakia (1969), Yugoslavia (1979), and the People's Republic of China (1980). Arce coached the National Teams of both Holland (1971) and Italy (1975) to the European Baseball Championship The European Baseball Championship is the main championship tournament between national baseball teams in Europe, governed by the Confédération Européenne de Baseball (CEB). It is held every other year in odd-numbered years. ; he is the only coach to win the European Championship for two different countries. He is in the Royal Dutch Baseball/Softball Hall of Fame, has been honored twice by the Italian Federation, and has received special recognition awards from the Baseball Federations in Belgium and Sweden. Arce founded International Sports Group, a non-profit organization, to conduct international coaches clinics, patterned after the annual ABCA ABCA American Baseball Coaches Association ABCA American Border Collie Association ABCA Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Arte ABCA Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority ABCA American, British, Canadian, and Australian clinics. Started in 1985, these clinics continue to impact baseball development in six or seven countries annually. Arce was on the coaching staff for the USA national teams in 1970, 1976, and 1978. For 33 of the 39 years of international involvement, Arce has donated his time and expertise without compensation. Arce has been active in the ABCA for 45 years, serving as President in 1974 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1995 through 1998. |
