ABC7 Eyewitness News Poll Calls L.A. Mayoral Election.

7 Eyewitness News accurately projected that former state Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles since Cristobal Aguilar in 1872.  would win the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Mayoral election, News Director Cheryl Fair said today.

The Eyewitness News poll of 1,200 likely voters projected Villaraigosa to come in first with 31% of the vote. His actual total as of this morning is 30%.

James Kenneth "Jim" Hahn (born July 3, 1950) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He was the Deputy City Attorney (1975-1979), City Controller (1981-1985), City Attorney (1985-2001) and Mayor of Los Angeles, California
 in second place and businessman Steve Soboroff in third place. Their actual totals were within the poll's 3% margin of error. The poll was conducted April 6 - April 8. All competing polls had Villaraigosa locked in a two-way tie with Hahn or a three-way tie with Hahn and Soboroff. Villaraigosa and Hahn will face off in a nonpartisan runoff election on June 5.

ABC7 Eyewitness News began tracking the contest mid-March, recording in three separate polls Villaraigosa's surge from mid-teens to nearly a third of city voters. Support for Hahn, who began as front-runner in the race, remained flat with about a quarter of voters choosing him over the other 14 candidates. Soboroff picked up voters in the weeks leading up to the election, but not enough to beat Hahn.

ABC7 Eyewitness News, Southern California's No. 1 station for news, will continue to track the Los Angeles mayor's contest, polling voters up until the June 5 runoff.
