Prior to last January's initial Auto Show the producers extended an invitation to Crawford to appear, only to rescind the offer after learning a polled segment of the male population was more interested in seeing the Land Rover See LANRover.  sport utility vehicle. To make amends, The Show's promoter conducted a month-long survey of male autobuyers in the Bay Area, asking 400 men what female they would most like to meet. Accordingly, The Show reached agreement with KNTV to bring Dunning to the 1996 Auto show on Jan. 7, 1996.

The Auto Show will display over 400 new cars, light trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles This page lists sports utility vehicles currently in production (as of April 2007), as well as past models. The list includes crossover SUVs, Mini SUVs, Compact SUVs and other similar vehicles.  and factory concept cars at The San Jose Convention Center January 3-7.

Additionally, The Show will offer daily entertainment and celebrity guest appearances. It was in the latter vein that last year's show created a stir.

"The '95 show drew over 100,000 people for five days and was well received," promoter Peter Ciccarelli of Carter Waxman Advertising and Public Relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. Before attempting to reconcile with the most photographed model in the world, The Show commissioned a research poll in October of 1995 to ask new car and truck buyers in the Silicon Valley who their choice of the ideal date would be.

Amidst a roster of beauties that included Crawford, models Kathy Ireland and Vendela, and actresses Halle Berry and Sharon Stone, the stunning Dunning drew the most support. "Roseanne even got three votes," Ciccarelli admitted. "I don't think that's what Mark and Scott had in mind."

The Auto Show, sponsored by the San Jose Mercury News The San Jose Mercury News is the major daily newspaper in San Jose, California and Silicon Valley. The paper is owned by MediaNews Group. Its headquarters and printing plant are located in North San Jose next to the Nimitz Freeway (Interstate 880). , will open Wednesday, Jan. 3 and conclude on Sunday, Jan. 7. Hours for Wednesday through Friday will be 12 noon to 10 p.m. The show will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and close at 10 p.m. and will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $3.50 for children age 6-12 and children under 6 free. Discount adult general admission coupons will be available at all Nob Hill Foods locations in Central and Northern California beginning Dec. 26.
