entertainment president Jamie Tarses Jamie Tarses (born 1964) was head of ABC's entertainment division from 1996 to 1999, the first woman and one of the youngest people to hold such a post in an American broadcast network. She is the daughter of television writer Jay Tarses.  was not made available to the press contingent.

The ``Jamie Watch,'' it seems, will continue for a couple of more days. Tarses, who has been the subject of published reports recently indicating that she's on the way out, is scheduled to meet the press Wednesday morning.

Tarses, who has been in her current position for a little more than a year, was at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington during ABC's presentation but stayed behind the scenes.

An ABC spokesman said that there are no plans to change the schedule.

Speculation is that Tarses, the highest-ranking female executive among the big three networks, is trying to work out a buyout of the four remaining years of her contract while ABC is looking for Looking for

Live from the ER: The Sept. 25 season premiere In television, a season première refers to the first episode of a new television season for a series that has been renewed.

In North America, a given show's season première often airs in September or October, after several months of reruns.
of NBC's juggernaut drama ``ER'' will be broadcast live on the East Coast, the network announced.

The West Coast will see the same broadcast, potential gaffes and all, three hours later when the show airs at Pacific time.

The episode will be designed to make the show as easy to produce as possible.

``It's going to be a logistical nightmare,'' said executive producer John Wells John Wells may be:

People:
  • John Wells (artist) (1907–2000), Cornish painter
  • John Wells (cricketer) (1760 - 1835), English cricketer
  • John Wells (Mormon) (1864–1941), general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
, ``and that's what'll make it fun and exciting. And hopefully, some of that excitement that's happening on the stage will come through in the performance.''

Wells said that his decision to go live was not for the purposes of publicity.

``One of the reasons we took some time deciding to do it,'' he said, ``is that we were looking for a creative reason to do it. Otherwise it's just a gimmick, frankly.''

The creative reason he found involves the story line of Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), who was a victim of an act of violence last season, and his inability to deal with it.

``I think, through the context of how it will work,'' Wells said, ``(It) will actually make it very clear when you see it that it was really the best way to do it. The argument can be made that it does not have to necessarily be live. It could also have been shot, but I think it'll have a certain immediacy shot live that will add to that - to the rawness of what's happened to Greene.''

Wells is showing a lot of guts making this move, not only for the obvious reasons but for the confidence he is showing. No backup episode will be ready to air in case of a blackout, earthquake or any other kind of emergency.

``I think we will be performing a bit without a net,'' he said.

There will be some cutaway scenes if necessary, possibly one each act, that would include a couple of characters and a camera crew in case of a technical glitch A temporary or random hardware malfunction. It is possible that a bug in a program may cause the hardware to appear as if it had a glitch in it and vice versa. At times it can be extremely difficult to determine whether a problem lies within the hardware or the software. See glitch attack. . Viewers on the West Coast will see all the flubs.

``Our intent is not to do any re-editing on it,'' Wells said. ``We won't have that much time, and you know, one of the problems if you go in and try to pull stuff apart, it is a little bit like a sweater. ... I have a feeling we'll all be sort of standing outside the stage screaming and hopping up and down afterward, rather than trying to repair anything.''
