ABBYY and Scantron Form Strategic Technology Licensing Partnership.

FREMONT, Calif. -- ABBYY USA and Scantron Corporation have formed a strategic technology licensing partnership through which Scantron released Cognition, a complete software solution for automated forms processing and data collection based on ABBYY FineReader(R) Engine SDK (Software Developer's Kit) See developer's toolkit and Windows SDK.

 and ABBYY's forms processing technologies.

ABBYY USA is a leading provider of recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies. Scantron is a recognized leader in software services and systems for the collection, management and interpretation of data to the educational, financial and commercial markets.

The partnership comes after two years of collaboration between ABBYY and Scantron in the development of a processing solution for Scantron forms. Scantron conducted an exhaustive search for a recognition and forms processing technology partner before selecting ABBYY.

"We rated our OCR/ICR vendors against many metrics, including accuracy, value, and ability to meet development platform requirements in the future," said Mark Espinola, president of Scantron's Data Collection Division. "ABBYY FineReader and its related forms processing components was a clear choice for its ability to fit our needs and Scantron's reputation for excellence."

Cognition was launched to existing Scantron customers in January 2005 and feedback indicates the product is meeting and exceeding expectations with regard to data conversion, speed and accuracy. Prior to the launch, Scantron completed a six-month field-test of Cognition in its own service bureau to prove its reliability, accuracy and security in a high-volume environment. The Scantron Service Bureau, which process millions of images and documents a year, provided an ideal testing ground to prove Cognition's scalability in meeting enterprise-level customer demands.
